Stimulation at 16 and 20 caused inability to speak, the patient stating after stimulation, “I could not think of the word.” Upon stimulation at 17, the patient named the image he had seen immediately before. The detail at left illustrates the relationship of the tumour to the precentral gyrus in cross section. The detail at right illustrates Broca’s area after the resection of the tumour and the effect of stimulation of the postero-lateral bank of the pars opercularis.
